Frequently Asked Questions
How are you different your competitors?
On a local level, we are the only company that indexes all TV news plus primary radio news content. We can deliver our reports detailing ALL of your results and include the preview video. We can even configure your account so you can edit, download, archive and share your clips all on your own. Nationally, no other nationwide news monitoring service covers as many markets or supplements the text like we do. This means we see more news, catch more of your stories, and you’ll always have better results from Total News Tracking. Additionally, we maintain real people in both production and customer service, so you can get an answer when you need it.
Do you offer flat-fee broadcast monitoring services?
Yes, in fact we provide more coverage than any other monitoring service. By using both closed captioned text AND analyst generated text to supplement what is missing, Total News Tracking is the most comprehensive monitoring service. Many of our services include a preview video so you can review segments before purchasing.
What is EasyEdit?
With EasyEdit you get an alert any time your broadcast news terms are mentioned, can preview the stories of interest, then edit and save any specific TV or radio stories to your personal media archive. As either a pay-per-clip or flat fee service, EasyEdit is the most affordable and comprehensive service of its kind. Again, with supplemental text provided by our analysts, you can rest assured that Total News Tracking will always find the most hits for you.
What is the reasoning behind the prices for your research and news clips?
Our fees represent the enormous amount of time, cost, and expertise behind the production of our research and news clips. We employ a full staff of editors, news archivists, video processors, programmers, accountants, customer service reps, and computer specialists. Total News Tracking is also investing thousands of dollars every year to keep up with the continuing technological changes and advances in this industry. We bring added value to your PR and communications efforts. Our analysis services can even show you exactly what your media exposure is worth and the impact of your media exposure.
Do you have discounts for non-profit organizations, schools, or missionaries?
Yes, please call for subscriber and non-subscriber rates.
How far back does your news archive go?
Up until December 2005, we maintained the industry standard for a typical news monitoring library - a 60 day archive. With the latest digital developments we are now able to maintain clips on a long-term basis. Original DVD quality recordings will be stored indefinitely. Clips older than 60 days will incur additional charges. We have also archived special topics and extraordinary events in Utah news.
Are you a TV station?
No. We are an independent news clipping and media analysis service. We do enjoy great relationships with the local TV stations, but are not directly affiliated with any of them.
Do you provide raw footage from TV stations?
No, raw footage and out-takes are property of the stations. We only have newscasts as they were aired on TV.
Do you provide transcripts?
Yes. Verbatim transcripts from local, network, and other markets nationwide are available. We also have abbreviated text summary reports available for purchase.
Do you record anything other than news? (Survivor, Jay Leno, Lost, parades, games, telethons, etc?) Do you track TV commercials and ads?
It depends. We cannot provide entertainment programs, college/professional sporting events, or movies. We can track some advertising, creative, and special programming both locally and nationwide. Total News Tracking monitors all network and cable network programming and can provide segments from news and news magazine programs. If you have a question about specific content, please contact our office.
Do you track TV commercials and ads?
Yes. We can track creative advertisements and PSA's. In some cases prior notice may be required. When in doubt, give us a call. There's very little we cannot find.
Do you record cable news programs?
Yes. We monitor, report, and can provide segments from virtually any network, cable network, and all 210 markets nationwide. We are Utah's only complete TV and Radio monitoring service and serve clients nationwide.
Do you monitor radio?
Yes. We record Utah's primary news/talk stations 18 hours per day, as well as many other states. Drive-time news from KSL is also monitored and available in our Broadcast-Alert reports. Hits from radio are included with our Broadcast-Alert reports. No service records more radio in Utah than Total News Tracking.
Do you clip newspapers and magazines?
Yes. Through our affiliation with Universal Information Services and the Utah Press Association we can provide statewide or nationwide press clippings. Your coverage can be integrated into our SmartView media dashboard. Regional and National press clippings are also available in our Digital Clipping format. Please call if you need print media monitoring.
Can I make copies of the clips I get from you?
Yes, usually you can make copies but not for commercial gain.
